Slack – the Future of Messaging

What is SLACK and why are so many companies using it?

Slack is a cloud-based instant messaging tool that is intended for workplace collaboration, as well as integrating all the apps or products that an organisation uses.

Why does it matter?

Slack increases productivity by simplifying communication. It supports start-up companies by offering a FREE version that has no limit in the number of users. With an upgraded account, users can use additional features like video call, team calls as well as screen-sharing is available.

It has various channels that team members can be assigned to and a private direct messaging system for individual specific conversation. These channels may be a private or public channel – whatever you choose. It is a more secure way of communication rather than emails. When teams work together in channels, information can be shared with everyone quickly, helping team members stay informed, on the same page and make decisions quickly.

As more and more teams are transitioning to online work and working remotely, Slack was the solution especially for companies that adapted to working from home during the midst of the pandemic. Slack’s integration with other softwares or other programming languages allowed the teams to access everything needed, wherever they were located.

Slack supports asynchronous work. It doesn’t matter what your position is, where you are located, what your time zone is, you are able to access all the information you need at your own time. Ask questions, share your updates, get caught up with the tasks mentioned. You can do that even without coordinating schedules.

And one more thing, Slack is highly customisable. Team members can change their status – let everyone know you are in a meeting, out sick, on vacation or anything else you wanted to convey. Notifications can also be customised – choose times when you are only able to receive notifications or turn it off when you are on a busy mode. Plus, you can use it in both your laptop, personal computer or mobile phone.
